Our Roots & Shoots programme started with just two schools and has expanded to 33 local groups today. That's because students and teachers from all backgrounds find the projects help to put community, conservation and school – even science - lessons into meaningful context. And doing projects outside the classroom can be much more memorable and enjoyable than trying to learn from somebody else's experience or from a text book. Students participating in Roots & Shoots activities have completely led and planned their projects. They come up with the ideas, they assign roles and responsibilities and they learn to troubleshoot to overcome any hurdles along the way. Time and again, Roots & Shoots groups tell us how rewarding their projects have been and how the lessons they've learned have been so useful in later life.

Roots & Shoots is a great way to get your school involved in community and environmental work as well as to nurture future leaders of our community.
