The Jane Goodall Institute (Singapore) (JGIS) is the Singaporean branch of the Jane Goodall Institute, an organization developed by Dr. Goodall to expand her mission to protect primates and their habitats, and to make the world a better place for all living things. The main branch of JGI is based in Washington D.C. and is a vibrant and active institute aimed at developing research, conservation, and education programs around the world. JGIS has largely been focusing on developing JGI’s Roots & Shoots program here in Singapore, which is JGI’s youth environmental education program.
JGI has an international network of 26 JGI-affiliated offices, and more than 8,000 Roots & Shoots groups worldwide. This large interconnected group of organizations under the umbrella of JGI provides a networking platform of people looking to make a difference in this world for animals, people, and the environment. Overall, each branch of the Jane Goodall Institute works to educate and empower individuals to take informed and compassionate action to improve the environment for all living things.
JGIS’s Roots & Shoots Program
Most activities of JGIS have been related to our Roots & Shoots youth education program. The core goal of JGIS since its inception has been to develop Roots & Shoots groups, as well as to design and implement programs and activities for these groups. As in the vision of Dr. Goodall, each Roots & Shoots group is like a root that can grow and expand into numerous shoots, eventually becoming strong branches that make a real impact on helping our world to be more green and peaceful. As more and more Roots & Shoots groups develop, more shoots will be formed, and JGI will eventually grow into a strong tree of support for making the world a better place.
To facilitate the development of our Roots and Shoots groups, JGIS leads:
-
Outreach programs to schools
-
Mentoring programs to train the educators and students organizing new Roots & Shoots groups
-

-
